How to transfer your credit history from your ITIN Number to your Social Security number?

You finally got your social security number and you want to transfer your credit history without losing your credit report and seniority. Here we give you the steps to follow.

Before making this transfer, we suggest waiting 3 months after obtaining your social security number, since in some cases it is necessary for the credit agencies to process the validity of your SSN number. Well, the last thing you want is to have problems when transferring your credit history from an ITIN, so that is why it is better to wait for the agencies to process your new information.

Now yes, follow these steps to transfer your ITIN credit history to your social security (SSN):
Before starting, we recommend you check your credit with your ITIN so that you can make sure you have good credit before transferring it. This way you can be sure that your credit score is free of negative marks.

Step 1: Contact your lenders
Notify them of your new SSN. Tell them that you need to update your information with your registered social security number, since you were approved using an ITIN or Tax ID. Ask them to please report your current credit history and future payments under your new assigned SSN.
NOTE: This is supposed to happen automatically on their part, but it doesn't hurt to make the caveat.

Step 2: Send your test documents
Lenders or credit card issuers may ask you to send a copy of an identity document that shows your address and a copy of your social security card. Generally, your ITIN number will be updated to your social number in 10-15 business days.

Step 3: Check your credit history
After about 2 months of the update, request a credit report with the 3 main agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to verify that the information of your loans and credit cards are correct.

Your credit report may not show your full social number, but the last 4 digits should be the same.
